History
Founded in 1967, the Greater Lansing Catholic Education Foundation (GLCEF), originally the Non-Public School Foundation, formed to provide financial support to Lansing area Catholic schools. Funding was designated for teacher professional development and need-based scholarships.
In 1980, GLCEF reorganized focusing on securing the financial future of Lansing Catholic Central High School. However, in 1986, the Board of Trustees recognized the connection between Catholic formation at the elementary and high school levels, thus the mission was expanded to include Catholic School sat every grade level and religious education. It was at this time that GLCEF was given official Church status by the Bishop of Lansing. GLCEF changed from an independent non-profit organization to a public juridic person of the Diocese of Lansing.
Presently, GLCEF provides need-based tuition assistance grants to families sending their child/children to a Catholic school in the Northwest Region of the Diocese of Lansing (Clinton, Eaton, Ingham and Shiawassee Counties). GLCEF also honors those dedicated to Catholic education through the annual Elizabeth Ann Seton Gifted Educator Award. Last, there are numerous named endowment funds created by donors for a specific purpose. GLCEF distributes expendable amounts from each of these managed funds for their intended purpose.
